Hong Kong: Ocean Park & Symphony of Lights (HK15 Part 2)

Hong Kong 2015

The apartment was located only 5 minutes walk to the MTR Wan Chai station. That's practically a huge advantage. Today we were going to Ocean Park via public transport. The route is pretty simple. We took MTR from Wan Chai to Admiralty Station (Exit B), and from the Admiralty Station we then took a Citybus 629 to Ocean Park. Trust me, you won't get lost.

Busy morning.

Double decker Citybus to Ocean Park.
Ocean Park opens at 10:30am. We arrived early. Always, always arrive early to theme park, because theme park is not cheap. So make the most out of it. Ocean Park is a one huge park. So huge it separated by hills. Basically, there are two parts of the park. The one at lower ground (Waterfront) and the other on top of the hill (Summit). Most major rides are located at the Summit. We started the day by seeing panda and red panda in their sanctuary. They are all adorable as I imagine it to be. After some awe sessions and photo opportunity with the mascot, we then took the cable car to get to the Summit. Cable car is something you must not miss when in Ocean Park. It offers amazing view of both the park and the ocean.

The tag-team.

Hong Kong: The Peak (HK15 Part 1)

Hong Kong 2015

Our flight to Hong Kong from KLIA2 was early in the morning. It took roughly 4 hours to reach Hong Kong international airport. We then took the red taxi from the airport to our Airbnb stay at Hong Kong island. HK taxi is efficient, very easy to get and convenient too. And the car is spacious!

Our 3-bedroom apartment was booked via Airbnb a couple of months prior the arrival date. It was stated in the website that the apartment can accommodate up to 10 people. One thing I learned about Hong Kong is that, the people can live in a small and compact living space (especially in the middle of the city center mainly because of the high cost of living) and I guess that they are already used to it. So when it says apartment for 10 people, try not to really believe in that. Our pax were 6 adults + 2 kids, and we already cramped up the whole apartment. The place is modern and cozy nonetheless (complete with basic amennities, kitchen, bathroom and most importantly wifi!), but honestly for me it's more like 5-6 persons apartment. I'm not complaining though, because we really paid for what we got. :)

This view, we knew we're in Hong Kong.
Our stay. The name is kinda misleading.
After checking in (it's a self check-in by the way, how cool is that?), we got ourselves ready to see Hong Kong. The perfect place to do this is by seeing it from The Peak. It was end of spring season, and the weather was just like what we have in Malaysia (hot and humid). But to be somewhere high like The Peak was a wise decision. It's breezily cool, foggy and windy and very oversea-like. But the downside of the excessive fogs, they're blurring our view to see Hong Kong city skyline from the top. There's one place called Sky Terrace 428, which I guess is the perfect spot to see Hong Kong from The Peak, but you have to pay some fee for the entrance. So I made some research and found an alternative for that and most importantly, it's free! Just opposite of the Sky Terrace 428 building, there's a shopping mall, The Peak Galleria. Just go inside and climb up to roof top, and tadaa..free view of Hong Kong skyline. Thank you TripAdvisor.

The Peak has very much to offer other than just a view. Shopping malls, restaurants, Madame Tussauds, Trick Eye Museum and many more. So you won't be bored. It's a perfect place to hang out.

At The Peak tram station.
